Fewer volunteers needed for tornado cleanup on Monday
By Beccy TannerThe Wichita Eagle
The United Way of the Plains is asking for fewer volunteers on Monday to allow more waste-disposal trucks easier access into the storm-damaged areas.
United Way has been coordinating the cleanup in Oaklawn and surrounding areas since last Tuesday.
Volunteers worked through the weekend cleaning up properties and have moved debris to street curbs for pickup.
In a news release issued by United Way, Delane Butler, vice president for marketing with the United Way of the Plains, said that officials will be assessing the requests later Monday to determine other volunteer needs for the rest of the week.
Volunteers who want more information or people needing assistance should dial 211 (United Ways 24-hour information line).
