WICHITA — Sedgwick County commissioners voted 5-0 this morning to declare an emergency from Saturday’s EF-3 tornado that damaged Oaklawn, Spirit AeroSystems, Boeing and Hawker Beechcraft.
Commissioners expressed gratitude that no one died in the tornado and that injuries were minor. They said people heeded early warnings and took shelter, sparing lives.
County and city officials are working with the state to assess damage to see if the county qualifies for federal disaster assistance.
The focus now is on cleanup.
