Three high schools move Saturday proms to sites with shelters

Three area high school proms will move to new locations Saturday because of the threat of tornadoes.

Maize High School’s prom was to take place at the Cotillion but will start at 8 p.m. at Maize South Middle School, 3403 N. Tyler, where there is a FEMA storm shelter. The after-prom party will begin at 11 p.m. and end at 3 a.m.

Goddard High School’s prom has moved from the Mid-America All-Indian Center to the high school. The after-prom party will be from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. A notice on the Goddard School District’s website said that “Goddard High School has sufficient room to handle the large number of students and patrons in the event of a severe weather emergency.”

Valley Center High School’s prom has moved from Exploration Place to the high school, which has a FEMA storm shelter. It starts at 8 p.m. with an after party till 2:30 a.m.
