Three restaurants on the way

1

Chipotle, 7130 W. Maple: Wichita’s fifth Chipotle should open by the end of the year in the former Scrapbook Garden space in the strip center at Ridge and Maple. Wichita already has four Chipotles: at Kellogg and Rock, at 29th and Rock, at 21st and Maize and at Central and Hillside.

2

Chick-fil-A, 10515 W. 21st: Owner/operator Jason Lansdown broke ground Tuesday morning on the west side stand-alone Chick-fil-A, scheduled to open in July at the corner of 21st and Maize. Just like on the east side, the opening will be accompanied by a camp-out that rewards the first 100 people through the door with free Chick-fil-A for a year.

3

Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet: This sushi/Japanese steakhouse/Chinese buffet hybrid should open in the former Payless and Fashion Bug spots at Westgate Market near Kellogg and Dugan in September.

Quick bites

Two new food trucks

The food trucks in town keep multiplying, and Wichita has two new ones scooting around town. One is MMM Sandwiches, opened by Michael Awesome-Noyes earlier this week. His menu includes barbecue pork, Asian pork, a Cuban, a veggie melt, ham and cheese and more. He also sometimes has tacos on special. He’s open only for lunch right now but is thinking he’ll add breakfast soon. He posts his location each day on his Facebook page, titled MMM Sandwiches. For more information, call 316-806-4301. A three-week-old sandwich truck called B.S. Sandwich Press is run by Doug Buchanan along with help from his sister, Jodi. He offers several hot sandwiches, a hot dog, hand-cut fries and homemade potato chips. The truck is open for lunch only and usually parks somewhere on Wichita’s south side. Owners also update the location on the truck’s Facebook page. Call 316-494-3735 for more information.

Tanya’s birthday pug brunch

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen at 1725 E. Douglas turns 1 today and will celebrate her restaurant’s first birthday with several days worth of activities, culminating in a “pug brunch” Sunday. The brunch, inspired by Tanya’s beloved pugs Olive and the late LuLu, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday on Tanya’s patio. Humans pay $10 for food, which will include sandwiches, soups and a few breakfast items. Dog treats will be provided, too. Pugs are particularly invited, but any friendly smaller-breed dog is welcome. Tandoc is limiting the brunch to 40 pugs and 60 humans, so if you want to attend, make a reservation by calling 316-267-7687. If the weather is iffy on Sunday morning, the brunch will be rescheduled for May.
