Tag offices to be closed during upgrade

Sedgwick County residents who plan to renew their vehicle registrations this spring may need to alter their schedules as the state upgrades its system for managing driver’s licenses and car tags.

As part of the project, the Kansas tag offices will be closed from May 1 through May 8, county officials said.

To help make up for the closing, the office will offer extended hours – from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. – from April 25 through April 27, and on April 30. The extended hours will be offered again from May 9 through May 11.

Internet tag renewals will not be available from April 27 through May 7.

The new system will be used to track nearly 2 million driver’s licenses and 2.7 million vehicles. When it goes live on May 1, courts, insurance companies and law enforcement agencies will have real-time access to accurate information about Kansas drivers and vehicles.

Kansans whose last names begin with C or D are required to renew their vehicle registrations in April, while those whose names that begin with E, F or G must renew in May.

Sedgwick County’s main tag office is at 200 W. Murdock. There are satellite offices at 2120 N. Woodlawn and 2330 N. Maize Road in Wichita, and at 212 W. Greenway in Derby.
