A two-vehicle collision in northwest Wichita on Friday afternoon killed an 82-year-old Mount Hope woman, police said.

Betty Reichenberger was driving south on Ridge Road when her car was hit by a van turning left at 37th Street North, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. She was pinned in the wreckage and pronounced dead at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis shortly after she was taken there.

The 69-year-old Wichita man who was driving the van told police he did not see the car, Schroeder said. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision, he said.

Authorities are awaiting the results of blood tests before presenting the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

This is the fourth traffic fatality in Wichita so far this year, Schroeder said.
