Police are investigating an early-morning shooting that left one man dead after a brief car chase.

Deputy Police Chief Terry Moses said Sunday that it would take some time to put together all the information involved in the incident, in which a police officer fired the fatal shot.

The shooting happened near 35th South and Everett, northeast of I-235 and Meridian, early Sunday morning. Police said officers attempted to stop a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle involved in an earlier drive-by shooting. The vehicle took off, police followed and then four people inside the car got out and started running, according to KWCH, the Eagle’s news partner..

Police chased the suspects on foot, and an officer fired his gun at one, striking him. The suspect went to the hospital, where he died.

A second suspect was taken into custody, and two others remained at large.
