Jack DeBoer’s downtown WaterWalk development has landed its fifth office client.

Kelley, York and Associates, one of the Wichita area’s largest court reporting services, has leased 2,200 feet of office space on the first floor of the development. Finish work is under way, with the firm slated to move in in April, said Doug Rupe, executive vice president of WaterWalk.

Partners Darlene Kelley and Vesta York have a staff of nine providing full support to attorneys, medical entities and businesses needing depositions, video conferencing and document imaging.

It’s the first of what Rupe hopes will be more office space leases as interest revives in WaterWalk.

“I think we’ve seen a turn for a lot of different reasons, largely because people are more aware of what we have at WaterWalk and because of a return of confidence,” Rupe said. “People are ready to make a move. We’ve been trying to put a lot of pieces in place so we’d be ready when tenants and customers are ready to move, and we’re starting to see that now.”

Kelley said the company needed more conference space as it moved into the areas of imaging services, video conferencing and video interviews. The adjacent Marriot Fairfield Inn and Suites hotel on site also played a role in the relocation decision, since the company works with many out-of-town clients.

Marlin Penner of NAI John T. Arnold & Associates and Randy Johnson of J.P. Weigand & Sons brokered the transaction.
