Squeezer’s Palace is back: The colorful walk-up ice cream spot at 11th and Bitting in Riverside that opened last summer then closed for the winter, will be back in business Friday. Owner Kirk David is adding a few offerings to his original menu, which included ice cream and yogurt creations, frozen bananas and smoothies. New to the spring menu: Hot dogs, tea, fresh juices and coffee supplied by Il Primo, the coffee shop at 6422 E. Central. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Patios are filling up: The warm weather has inspired restaurants to open their outdoor patios, which keep multiplying by the day. Last week, the Candle Club at 6135 E. 13th St. opened its newly constructed patio. Other restaurants with inviting outdoor seating: Ziggy’s Pizza, 3700 E. Douglas, Newport Grill and Ya Ya’s Eurobistro in Bradley Fair, and Old Town Square restaurants Sabor, Hana Cafe and Caffe Moderne.

The Brickyard is open: The restaurant and bar without a roof at 129 N. Rock Island opened for the season a week ago. The Brickyard, which offers live music and a small bar menu, is open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Chick-fil-A opening chain’s third best

Wichita’s Chick-fil-A, which opened last week, had the third biggest grand opening day in the chain’s history, said franchise owner Brad Fuller. There are 1,610 Chick-fil-As across the country. The only other Chick-fil-As to ever have a bigger opening sales day were two in the Chicago area that opened a year and a half ago. The combined sales of two other Chick-fil-As that opened on Thursday, one in Tennessee and one in New Jersey, didn’t match Wichita’s, Fuller said.

Hot dog stand feeding bar crowds

Chris May, who started a mobile hot dog cart called Relish It! in late 2010, has reopened for spring. After a winter hiatus, he’s found a plan that works: He stations himself in Old Town Square near First and Mosley from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights to catch the hungry post-bar crowds.
