Police have few leads in a weekend shooting that has left a 28-year-old man clinging to life at a local hospital.

The victim was brought to Wesley Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m. by a man who told police he found him at the QuikTrip at 47th and Hydraulic, where he’d stopped after leaving Jezebel’s, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The man, who was shot once in the lower abdomen, was immediately taken into surgery and is in “extremely critical condition” in the surgical intensive care unit at Wesley Medical Center, Nolte said.

Police found blood in the parking lot of the convenience store, but no shell casings and no vehicle belonging to the victim. He is from Emporia, Nolte said.

Investigators aren’t sure where the victim was shot or how he got to Wichita. It appears the man was shot late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Anyone with information about the incident or the victim should call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
