The annual parade in Delano, an Irish festival that’s back after a year’s break and a party for kids are among the ways the community can go green on St. Patrick’s Day Saturday.
The main event is the Sixth Annual St. Patrick’s Parade in Historic Delano. It begins at noon at Douglas and McLean and will proceed west along Douglas to Walnut Street.
On either side of the parade you’ll be able to find food, drink and entertainment to take you from breakfast past dinner and into the evening.
• The Wichita Irish Cultural Association will adjourn after the parade to a tent outside the Artichoke Sandwich Bar at 811 N. Broadway for the Third Annual Irish Festival. (The association took a break last year.) Mulligan and Irish stews, dancers, music, contests and Guinness will be the order of the day.
The Correy Academy of Irish Dance will perform at 1 p.m., and contests will commence at 2:30 on the themes of red hair and freckles, limericks and tallest leprechaun.
Musical acts will follow: Shawn Craver at 3 p.m., Piper Leigh & the Smokin’ Section at 4 p.m., Knocknasheega at 5 p.m., John Korbel Confluence at 6 p.m., Go Lear at 7 p.m., and Pop and the Boys at 8 p.m.
Admission for adults is $10 at the door; children 16 and under are admitted free. Admission includes membership into the Irish Cultural Association. Food and drink are extra.
• In the Delano environs, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Downtown Senior Center, 200 S. Walnut, for $5 to benefit the center and the Civitan Club.
• A pre-parade party will get people warmed up starting at 9 a.m. at the Shamrock Lounge, 1724 W. Douglas. Breakfast there is $5. A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served up twice at the Shamrock – from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 10 p.m. – for $7. There will also be music at the Shamrock – the William McCollum Pipers will perform at 1 and 9 p.m., and Ian Briggs and the Saltire Pipers at 6 p.m.
• A free St. Patrick’s Day party will be thrown for kids from 1 to 3 p.m. at New Covenant Church, 1718 W. Douglas.Reach Annie Calovich at 316-268-6596 or email@example.com.
