Police officials are expected to release more details later this morning about a fatal shooting in an Old Town parking garage early Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in a public parking garage adjacent to the Hotel at Old Town. A melee broke out after a concert at Doc Howard’s Lounge ended and clubgoers spilled into the streets. A fight broke out, and someone started firing a gun.

A Wichita police lieutenant told KFDI Radio early Saturday morning that officers chased a man armed with a gun into the parking garage, where they exchanged gunfire with him. Another police lieutenant confirmed to The Eagle that one of five people wounded in the incident had died.

A Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said records confirm it was an officer-involved shooting. No officers were injured in the incident, a dispatch supervisor said.

The police briefing at City Hall will be held at 10 a.m.
