A 20-year-old woman who was stabbed several times during a disturbance in south Wichita has died, authorities said.

Wichita police were called to the parking lot of the K-Mart store at 4830 S. Broadway shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that a man was on top of a woman and beating her, Sedgwick County emergency dispatchers said. When officers arrived, dispatchers said, the woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and upper arms, while a 20-year-old man had stab wounds to the chest and upper abdomen.

They were both taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in critical condition, a dispatch supervisor said. She was pronounced dead at 11:06 p.m.

The man remains hospitalized. They were staying at a hotel next to K-Mart, the supervisor said.

It’s not yet clear whether the man and woman stabbed each other during a fight or were attacked by someone else, the supervisor said.

More information is expected to be released at a police briefing at City Hall later this morning.
