Gov. Sam Brownback highlights a full day of activities Wednesday for the grand opening of the Cabela’s store at 21st and Greenwich.

Brownback will speak to kick off five days of grand opening festivities that begin at 8:30 a.m. with music by local band Annie Up. Brownback and Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner will speak at 10:45 a.m., and the company’s pro staffer Tom Nelson will shoot the store’s ribbon with a bow and arrow to wrap up the grand opening ceremony before the store opens at 11 a.m.

It’s the start of numerous activities featuring outdoor television personalities, and hunting and fishing experts at the local store.

Guests will include Troy and Jacob Landry of “Swamp People,” Mark and Terry Drury from “Wildlife Obsession,” Melissa Bachman of “North American Hunter,” Don and Kandi Kisky of “Whitetail Freaks,” Steve Pennaz of “North American Fisherman,” C.J. Buck of Buck Knives, and Babe, Kris and Karlee Winkelman of Winkelman Productions.

There will be several family activities, including a wild game cook-off, basic gun-handling demonstrations, kids casting contests, a Nerf gun shootout and meet-and-greets with champion dogs from the Wichita Kennel Club.

Additionally, the company will give away a four-day, four-night fishing trip for two to Hatchet Lake Lodge in Saskatchewan, Canada, valued at $8,190.

The first 100 customers through the door Wednesday through Sunday will receive a special gift.

The store is Cabela’s 35th, and second in Kansas, joining the Kansas City location. It features thousands of products, including hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise, as well as clothing, gifts and furnishings.

The store is part of the Regency Lakes Shopping Center, which includes Super Target, World Market, Hampton Inn and Suites, and other retailers.
