Wichita police have captured a man who escaped from the Sedgwick County Jail last month.

Sean McKenzie, 33, was captured at about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday near Meridian and 31st Street South in southwest Wichita, authorities said. He had escaped the jail on foot the night of Feb. 26 while taking out trash with two other trustys, Sedgwick County sheriff’s Capt. Greg Pollock said.

Jail detention deputies gave chase on foot, he said, but were unable to catch him.

“Good police work” led officers to a house in the 3200 block of West Graber in southwest Wichita, Pollock said. McKenzie fled the house when officers entered, but he was captured about a block away at 3206 W. Wildwood.

“He was trying to get away, but he didn’t get far,” police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

A 30-year-old woman in the house on Graber was arrested on drug offenses and aiding and abetting a felon, records show. Nolte said a third person in the house was questioned but not arrested.

It appears McKenzie had been staying at the house off and on since his escape, authorities said.

“We believe he was there quite a bit, but not there exclusively,” Nolte said.

Along with charges related to his escape, Nolte said, McKenzie faces suspected drug charges linked to the meth officers found at the house on Graber.
