Volunteers who want to help clean up tornado-ravaged Harveyville will be allowed into the northeast Kansas town starting Thursday, the United Way of the Plains said.

Only residents were allowed into the town Wednesday after a tornado damaged an estimated 40 percent of the Wabaunseee County town Tuesday night.

All volunteers should check in at Mission Valley School, 12913 Mission Valley Road, in Eskridge, the United Way said. Volunteer schedule for the next four days: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday.

Volunteers will need to complete a liability release forms, receive wrist bands and go through a safety briefing before being transported to Harveyville. Volunteers should dress appropriately, including hats, gloves and closed-toed shoes. Food and water will be provided for lunch.

No clothing donations are needed. Those with large equipment or construction equipment should call 211 to register those items.
