People who like to think of themselves as “fashionistas” are thrilled when they get invitations to fashion shows during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York. But there are those who show up every year more interested in being seen than seeing what’s on the runway. Some have invitations, some don’t.

Some attendees commented that this year was especially “interesting” because so many people seemed to be showing off their “personal style.”

But veteran fashion writers who were waiting in line said something more along the lines of, “Good grief, this is a freak show.”

Personal style, over-the-top tastes, beautiful clothing — or whatever you want to call it, there was plenty to look at off the runway.
