The Wichita Business Coalition on Health Care has decided to look internally to help its employer and provider members figure out ways to improve health and quality of health care while lowering costs.

The organization comprising companies, health care providers and health plans will hold its first Innovation Summit from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Crestview Country Club. Registration is required and the cost for non-coalition members is $100, which can be applied to the cost of membership for new members.

Ron Whiting, the coalition’s executive director, said the summit will comprise a series of panel discussions with question-and-answer sessions afterward that will help its 50 members learn best practices from one another.

“It’s about employers and providers sharing things they are doing … (for) better health, better care and lower cost,” Whiting said.

Between 15 and 20 coalition members will be presenting on topics such as patient education and engagement, care innovations and employer strategies.

“We’re going to cover a lot of information throughout the course of the day,” he said.

The idea for the summit came from members themselves.

“What it really says is there is a lot of need for people to share what they are doing, learning from other people who are doing the things you are thinking about,” Whiting said. “The interest has been a lot stronger than I thought it would be. We’re almost to capacity.”
