The Wichita school board will pay a consulting firm another $15,000 for its work on a proposed boundary plan, according to an item on Monday’s board agenda.

The item calls for the district to amend its contract with RSP & Associates, an Overland Park-based consulting group, to pay the firm for work “outside the original project scope.”

Since September 2009 the district has paid the firm $330,000 for services related to setting school attendance boundaries. The company has analyzed housing patterns, enrollment, and other data, crafted boundary proposals, led a district advisory group and gathered input during community feedback meetings.

District spokeswoman Susan Arensman said extra work performed by RSP & Associates includes an additional advisory group meeting on Jan. 5 and a special board meeting on Feb. 6.

“But the fee is not just for the meetings,” Arensman said in an e-mail. “It’s also for the additional work that goes into preparing data based on feedback, making changes to maps and preparing for the meetings.”

Board members will consider the contract amendment Monday. They also will discuss the boundary proposal, which would open five new schools, close five others and shift some programs and attendance boundaries.

The board meeting is 6 p.m. Monday in the North High Lecture Hall, 1437 N. Rochester.
