Guadalupe Clinic’s two Wichita locations will resume regular operations today, after shutting down for nearly a week to mourn the unexpected death of its executive director.
The clinic’s main location, 940 S. St. Francis, reopened at 8:30 a.m. today. Patients will be seen starting at 1 p.m. at the new south-side facility, located at 2825 S. Hillside, next to the Lord’s Diner.
The clinic closed last Wednesday after the Catholic Diocese of Wichita announced the death of Marlene Dreiling, 61, executive director of Guadalupe Clinic for nearly 13 years, who died that same morning, apparently of natural causes.
Despite the loss of its leader, reopening quickly is crucial to serving uninsured members of the community, said Amy Pavlacka, a spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, which runs the clinic.
“Marlene has many staff members and volunteers who will pick up and do the work of the clinic,” Pavlacka said. “She trained them well. Her dedication and passion is reflected in the staff members and volunteers.”
Guadalupe Clinic offers health care services, including physician visits, to uninsured residents meeting income guidelines. Staff at the main location sees patients from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays; 1 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays; 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday. The clinic is also open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The south location operates from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.
