It’s going to get messy tonight.
Tomorrow will be worse – with slick and icy conditions.
A winter snow storm is expected to creep into Wichita between 8 and 10 p.m. this evening, followed by freezing drizzle throughout Monday morning.
“It could be a messy commute,” said Chris Jakub, meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Wichita is expected to receive only about an inch of snow – but the freezing temperatures over the weekend have caused the ground to harden and grow cold. This will be the first snowfall of the season to stick, Jakub said. And with the freezing drizzle expected to fall throughout much of Monday, traveling could be treacherous.
“We have been lucky. We have dodged winter up to this point,” Jakub said.
And it looks like winter may linger a bit after this storm.
Another chance for rain or snow could come as soon as late Tuesday into Wednesday.
