A 39-year-old Newton man was injured Saturday night in a fight in the parking lot following a mixed martial arts event at the Cotillion, 11120 W. Kellogg.

Wichita police were called to the scene at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. Scott Brunow of the Wichita Police Department.

“When he was leaving, he got into an altercation in the parking lot with an unknown suspect,” Brunow said.

The man, who police are not identifying, was struck in the head, knocked to the ground and then kicked. He received a skull fracture and brain bleed from the injuries, Brunow said. The man was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis.

Police are searching for his assailant, believed to be in his 30s.
