Family gatherings figure to be a bit awkward for one southwest Wichita clan after what happened Monday morning.
A 16-year-old boy told police his mother tried to run him over shortly before 9 a.m. at their house in the 1400 block of West Calvert, just northwest of I-235 and Seneca. He had opened the passenger door of the car, Lt. Doug Nolte said, and was knocked down as his 38-year-old mother put the car in motion.
She then tried to back over him as she left the driveway, he said. There was another witness to the incident, Nolte said. Police are still searching for the woman.
The teen, who has been placed in protective custody, was not seriously injured.
