WSU center Garrett Stutz made 7 of 16 shots and 10 of 12 free throws on Saturday to score 24 points. WSU center Garrett Stutz scored 24 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds on Saturday, a double-double performance that is no longer out of the ordinary. He has eight this season. Last season, the Shockers recorded seven, two by J.T. Durley, Gabe Blair and Toure Murry and one by Stutz.

Stutz is playing better this season. He is also playing more minutes, and the result is big numbers.

Some double-double trivia:

Stutz’s eight are the most by a Shocker since Jamie Arnold also had eight in 1996-97. Arnold produced 10 in 1994-95, and 26 for his career. Also in reach for Stutz is Steve Grayer’s mark of 11 in 1988-89. WSU’s single-season mark for double-doubles is 30 by Xavier McDaniel in 1984-85. McDaniel played 31 games that season, and had nine rebounds against North Carolina in the one game he didn’t reach double figures in both stats. He averaged double figures in both three times. Since McDaniel, only Grayer, Arnold (twice) and Stutz recorded eight or more double-doubles. These Shockers also averaged double figures in scoring and rebounding over a season: Dave Stallworth (three times), Cheese Johnson (twice), Cliff Levingston (three times), Warren Armstrong (twice), Bob Elmore (three times), Al Tate (twice), Bob Hodgson (once), Ron Heller (twice), Ron Washington (once) and Terry Benton (twice).
