Overnight fires damage apartment complex, barbershop

The Wichita Fire Department responded to two fires late Friday and early Saturday.

The first occurred at 10:30 p.m. Friday at a vacant apartment complex in the 1700 block of south Battin.

There were no injuries.

The electrical fire caused $50,000 in damage was accidental, said Lt. Troy Thissen.

A second fire occurred at 4:44 a.m. Saturday at a barbershop in the 400 block of west 21st Street North.

The fire was still under investigation Saturday morning. No one was injured, but damage is estimated at $105,000.

Nearby businesses in the strip mall suffered some smoke and water damage.
