Officers issue hundreds of tickets during 21st Street traffic crackdown

Law enforcement officers handed out hundreds of citations during a 24-hour period focusing on traffic violations on 21st Street throughout Sedgwick County.

The Project Impact focus on 21st ended at 7 a.m. Thursday, and featured officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Andover and Wichita police departments.

Wichita police and highway patrol troopers handed out 279 tickets, Lt. Doug Nolte said. Totals from Andover police and the sheriff’s office were not yet available.

Of the 279 tickets, 160 were for speeding and 31 were for seatbelt violations. One person was arrested for driving under the influence. The remainder were for various other traffic violations.

Previous Project Impact efforts have focused on Kellogg and Rock Road.
