She called 911 a few minutes before midnight Wednesday, claiming she had just been robbed of $10,000 and was chasing the thief in east Wichita.

Sure enough, officers spotted the Cadillac she had described and pulled it over in the 100 block of East 14th Street, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The driver walked away from the car, but was detained for questioning by the officers. They flagged down the woman as she arrived on the scene as well.

She claimed she had agreed to meet the man to buy the Cadillac, and he took off after she gave him the cash, Nolte said.

The driver gave “a little bit different story” than the woman had, saying there was more to the transaction than she was letting on, Nolte said.

“They did locate a significant quantity of drugs in the vehicle,” Nolte said.

Cocaine was found in the trunk, along with thousands in cash. The 26-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. The woman has not been arrested, Nolte said, but the investigation is continuing.
