— A former Wichita police officer pleaded guilty today to committing sexual battery while on duty.

Joseph McGill had been charged in March 2011 with inappropriately touching residents on two occasions while he was working as a police officer. The charges stemmed from separate incidents in November 2010 and the following February.

McGill, then 27, had been with the Police Department about three years. The department suspended him without pay, and he later resigned a couple of weeks after the charges were filed.

McGill pleaded guilty before Sedgwick County District Judge Jeff Syrios. McGill faces sentencing March 6 before Judge Mark Vining.
