President Obama said that colleges have a responsibility to control tuition costs. Is this the same president who has overseen a federal government that has borrowed $4 trillion in the past three years? Do as I say, not as I do.

Republicans would rather have Bill Clinton back in office than a Mormon for president. If you don’t believe me, just look at Newt Gingrich winning a primary. Many Christians don’t believe Mormons are Christians, too. Isn’t that a shame for our religion?

Now the Republican presidential hopefuls are saying the hostage rescue was a political act. I want to thank them for showing the electorate how really ridiculous they are in making such a claim.

Was that the State of the Union address or a 75-minute commercial for the re-election of Obama?

The State of the Union speech was a re-election speech. The actual state of the union can be summed up in a two-word expression borrowed from a middle school kid: It sucks.

How many homeless people were invited to the State of the Union address?

“Republicans hate Obama more than they love America”? If Republicans, independents and enlightened Democrats don’t get rid of Obama, there won’t be an America. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

I am a practicing but thinking Catholic, and I admire Kathleen Sebelius for supporting responsible parenting over invisible fetuses. In the minds of the pro-life folks, babies and children are woefully neglected in favor of the unborn.

The Jan. 27 Eagle had large front-page headlines pointing blame at our school board for buying land near Lincoln Elementary. Wichita citizens elected our school board to handle school business. Blame should go to The Eagle for meddling in something that was none of its business.

We need to stop all busing except for those students who live 2.5 miles from their nearest school. Stop closing the neighborhood schools.

The school bond focus group and community meetings were a farce. The superintendent is controlling the entire process. He isn’t looking for intelligent answers to the boundary changes. The consultants only know the stark data. They have no clue about our community and its needs.

After the stellar success of the state-owned Kansas Star Casino, it is time for state officials to move on to next revenue-enhancing venture: Have the elite members of the world’s oldest profession provide state-supervised services under one roof. Watch how quickly the deficit shrinks.
