A Papa John’s delivery man was robbed while he was bringing pizza to an apartment complex in southwest Wichita late Thursday night, police say.
The 26-year-old man was approached by a stranger when he arrived at Westway Apartments, 1510 W. Pawnee, at about 11 p.m., Lt. Steve Kenney said. The stranger demanded cash from the victim, and when he refused he was struck more than once in the head with a small baseball bat.
The blows knocked the delivery man down, Kenney said, and his car, wallet and cellphone were stolen along with the pizzas he was carrying.
The suspect left in the victim’s gold 2000 Honda Accord, with the Kansas license plate 304 EFI. The suspect is a black male about 45 years old, the victim told police. He was 5-feet-9 and 180 pounds.
The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for treatment of his injuries and then released, Kenney said.
