A 6-month-old boy from Hays is in protective custody in the pediatric intensive care unit at Wesley Medical Center, after he was brought to Wichita by air ambulance with a serious head injury early Friday morning, police said.
Officers were called to the hospital after the child arrived at about 1 a.m., Lt. Steve Kenney said. The infant has bleeding on both sides of the brain, police were told.
When the parents arrived at the hospital, they told police they did not know how their child was injured. He was in the care of a babysitter at the time, they said.
Authorities have not been able to find the babysitter to learn more about what happened to cause the injury, Kenney said. The infant is in protective custody as a precaution, he said.
