Brett Gordon

Operations manager, Intrust Bank Arena

Gordon hit the ground – or make that ice – running after starting at Intrust Bank Arena this month.

First up was a Wichita Thunder hockey game, followed by a Brad Paisley concert. Gordon likes getting the arena’s interior ready for the next event on the schedule.

"Just having the physical requirement of changing the building from event to event, that’s a big appeal to me," he said. "I like having a vision and a goal, and seeing that come to fruition is a rewarding experience."

Gordon, 25, was born and raised in Lincoln, Neb. He attended junior college in Independence, Kan., then earned a degree in business management and marketing from Park University in Kansas City. He played baseball for both schools.

He interned at the Sprint Center in Kansas City and worked in marketing and media relations for the Kansas City Royals before taking a job in operations with the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La. That arena, like Intrust Arena, is managed by SMG.

“We did very similar events to what we do here," Gordon said.

Off the job, Gordon has hung up his cleats but enjoys fishing, pheasant hunting and watching sports.

“Obviously, being from Nebraska I’m a huge Nebraska fan."

He’s become a big fan of the Wichita arena in a short time as well.

“I feel like it’s going to be great year," he said. “I hope there’s a lot of excitement in the community because we definitely are excited."
