Closing arguments are set for this morning in the trial of one of two men charged with causing the death last year of 5-year-old Amber Randolph.

Prosecutors say Ronald Bevan, who is charged with second-degree murder, caused the head-on crash last Feb. 12 that killed Amber and injured her mother.

A Sedgwick County jury last month was unable to reach a verdict in the trial of Matthew Noel, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case. Prosecutors plan to retry Noel next month.

Prosecutors said the two men were racing west on Kellogg near Seneca when Bevan pulled in front of Noel, causing Noel’s pickup to hit a snowbank, skip over the concrete median and crash into a car driven by Amber’s mother.
