The USD 259 budget crisis is a districtwide problem. Why put the burden on a few schools and students, especially the poorer schools? An across-the-board cut of 5 to 10 percent would be more equitable.

Close West High and put it up for sale. Redraw the boundaries so those kids can go to South, East and Northwest. Then take the teachers and operating budget to the new high school in Bel Aire so we won’t have a new high school sitting half empty.

Why are Bel Aire kids going to Wichita schools at all?

There is no Wichita school system. It is simply USD 259, without reference to any city such as Wichita, Eastborough, Bel Aire or Park City.

I was appalled when Wichita school board president Betty Arnold cut off a Lincoln Elementary parent’s interpreter before she could translate comments because the three-minute timer went off. Is it fair that parents who don’t speak English only get half the time to share comments at board meetings?

Way to go, South Carolina. Its voters showed the media that we Republicans can pick our own candidate, thank you. No more McCains.

Apparently my eyesight is worse than I thought. I don’t see any halo over Mitt Romney’s head. If people really dug into his personal life, what might they find? Nobody is perfect.

For either the Democrats or Republicans to comment on “family values” is valueless.

If the goal is defeating President Obama in November, nominating Newt Gingrich is not the answer.

Obama this, Obama that – I did not vote for Obama last election. But with the clown show the Republicans have going now, I am going to vote for him this election.

The human is the only creature on Earth that doesn’t operate by instinct, so do your homework before voting.

Wonder why suicide and depression are on the rise? How many people actually call friends, talk in person to others or send cards in the mail? Isn’t it ironic that we are so connected but very disconnected?

Wow – a Leonard Pitts column I agreed with (“Be careful about judging Marines,” Jan. 23 Opinion). War is hell. I’m sure those young Marines were glad they still had the necessary parts and bodily functions to do what they did, and that they weren’t the subject of a YouTube beheading video.
