Call center company OLC Global plans to add up to 200 more people over two years at its operation at 7370 E. 37th St. North.

The company expects to add the full- and part-time workers to man 70 additional work stations.

OLC now has about 250 employees at 160 stations in Wichita. The employees do in- and out-bound surveys, lead generation and sales.

The company’s headquarters is in Bartlesville, Okla. It opened a call center in Wichita in 2005.

CEO Tom O’Connor said the company is expanding because the industry is changing. One of the company’s main businesses is doing surveys for clients’ market research. But so many companies have switched to the Internet that this business is drying up.

OLC has decided to focus on health care and health care insurance customer service, O’Connor said. Not only does that sector continue to grow, but many companies are bringing call center work back to the U.S. from overseas. But companies must be bigger to compete for this kind of work, he said.

The company has invested in new software and begun investing in new work stations. It has opted not to replace a day-care center that operated in part of the company’s castle-like building in Wichita.

“Wichita in particular has an excellent workforce, some really outstanding people,” O’Connor said.

The company is also considering reopening a call center in Bartlesville that it closed in 2001.

The jobs start at $10 per hour and include some benefits, he said.
