Whether or not you like Newt Gingrich, you have to admit he sure has the news media in an uproar because they can’t believe anyone would vote for him. That leads me to the conclusion the news media think they are smarter than us, or it means they are failing to influence our vote to the extent they want. I take offense to both items.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the notion of the “family values” crowd that slammed Bill Clinton for his moral failings now lining up to support three-times-married, cheating husband Newt Gingrich for president. This has to be the epitome of hypocrisy.

Help me understand. Is it “Newt Gingrich is to family values as Mitt Romney is to job creation”? Or is it the other way around?

I can forgive Gingrich his affairs but not his hypocrisy. I wouldn’t trust him any further than I could toss Mitt Romney.

Ethics violations, adultery, serial marriages, admission that political power made him cheat on his wife, and yet he remains the darling of ultraconservative, right-wing, tea-party-loving “Christian” Republicans. This has to be a Tim Burton movie.

Republican campaigning and infighting are aiding the Democrats by providing negative ammunition they can use in the upcoming presidential election. Republicans are doing all of the legwork for their opponents by digging up and exposing every bit of dirt they can find on their own potential candidates.

There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that says we have to have 435 voting members of the House, so let’s cut that number down to about 350 to save the taxpayers’ money from those bloated congressional staffs and salaries.

The fascists and communists opposed each other before and during World War II. If you accuse someone of being both, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Illegal immigrants sneaking into our country are often coyotes, human traffickers and drug smugglers, and the resulting drug wars frequently escalate into theft, rape and murder. Shame on President Obama for refusing to take any action to stop this outrage.

Now that we know that Obama is both a good speaker and a good singer, we have to re-elect him. Unfortunately, that’s how many Americans think.

At least when my dog does something wrong and I scold him, he will acknowledge it. The president could take some lessons from my dog.

The media need to stop with the “sainted figure” business regarding Joe Paterno. He was no saint. A saint does the right thing, even when it’s not convenient. Paterno had a chance to be a leader and blew it.

To those of you who insist on whining about the seat-belt law: Do the rest of us a favor and don’t wear them. We’ll let natural selection take care of the rest.

If the warm winter weather continues, be prepared for Kansas Gas Service to raise its rates from lack of furnace activity.

Chain restaurants aren’t a very good incentive to attract tourists to Wichita.
