Intrust Bank tries a new approach at some ATMs

Intrust Bank’s drive-through ATMs are going paperless.

The area’s largest, locally based bank has purchased “Intelligent Deposit ATMs” for 11 branch drive-throughs. The bank has installed them at a drive-through at its downtown office at 105 N. Main as well as 3433 E. Central. The rest will be installed through mid-March.

The primary feature of the ATMs is cash and checks can be deposited directly into the machines without requiring placement of them in a deposit envelope. Customers receive an itemized receipt of their deposit, including amounts of cash broken down by denomination and images of every check.

Similar ATMs are already in operation at some competing banks in the area, including Commerce Bank and Bank of America.

Lisa Elliott, Intrust’s marketing and advertising manager, said the new ATMs are more convenient for customers to use. And “there is a cost savings for us,” Elliott said. She said because the checks that are deposited are immediately turned into electronic images, there is no need for bank personnel to empty the machines on a daily basis. And some of the cash deposited in them is recycled by the machine.

“That saves us kind of from that maintenance expense,” Elliott said.

The bank will also install the ATMs at Intrust drive-throughs at: 7800 E. Central, 8202 E 21st St., 1544 S. Webb Road, 2439 S. Seneca, 8601 W. Central, 2005 W. 21st St., 2735 N. Maize Road, 308 W. Central in Andover and 1501 N. Rock Road in Derby.
