A 4-year-old girl suffered a serious head injury when a television fell on her in her Oaklawn bedroom late Tuesday night, authorities said.

The parents of the child heard a loud boom in the child’s bedroom at about 11:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Cedardale, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Pollock said. Cedardale is just east of the Arkansas River between I-35 and K-15, south of 47th Street South.

When they reached the bedroom, the parents saw that a large, heavy 32-inch television and its low dresser had fallen on the girl, Pollock said.

“It appears to be an accident,” Pollock said.

She was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where she is in critical but stable condition, said Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit. She has multiple injuries, Weible said, including a head injury.
