Feds award $1.5 million to rehab, demolish homes in 4 north-central Kansas towns

Four north-central Kansas communities will share in more than $1.5 million in federal money to rehabilitate or demolish homes, the state’s commerce department announced Thursday.

Clyde, Concordia, Glen Elder and Wilson will use the money to rehab 55 properties and demolish 15 dilapidated units. The communities will contribute $2,000 each in matching funds.

Clyde, which has a population of 740, will receive $377,000 to rehab 14 homes for low-to-moderate income families and demolish two unoccupied houses. Concordia (pop. 5,146) will receive $341,800 to rehab 12 homes and demolish four unoccupied homes.

Glen Elder (pop. 444) will receive $400,000 to rehab 15 homes and demolish two homes. Wilson (pop. 737) will also rehab $400,000 to rehab 14 homes and demolish seven homes.

The funds are part of an annual distribution from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
