Gov. Sam Brownback and Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer are taking credit for possibly bringing 400 jobs to Bombardier Learjet by 2017 while Boeing will be cutting 2,100 jobs this year and in 2013. That is a net loss of 1,700 jobs.
I predict that next we will lose McConnell Air Force Base and then our little VA hospital. When private-sector jobs go away, public-sector jobs follow.
When PepsiCo bought Pizza Hut, it promised to leave Pizza Hut in Wichita. Its promise was soon broken, just like Boeing’s. Companies only look around at one another and think: “Why not? Everyone does it.”
After Boeing leaves, let’s never speak that name in Wichita again. If we have to refer to it, let’s just call it the Betrayal Airplane Co.
When Boeing leaves Wichita, maybe we could put Sam Brownback and Kris Kobach on the plane. If there are any extra seats, we could include Pat Roberts, Jerry Moran and Mike Pompeo.
I am glad to see that our local newspaper thought a success story about Boeing was something we wanted to read – not! (“Boeing to build 737 upgrade alongside current model in drive to boost output,” Jan. 11 Business Today).
The Wichita mayor, vice mayor and police chief went to Africa to bring economic business to Wichita. Let’s see the results now.
Has Brownback joined Westboro Baptist Church yet? It seems like it’s only a matter of time before he really goes off the deep end of so-called religion. I am sure Shirley Phelps-Roper would welcome him with open arms.
I find it hysterically funny that people have their undies in a twist over Kansas House Speaker Mike O’Neal’s comparison of Michelle Obama to the Grinch. It was simply the profile and flip of her hair in the picture. How can this be racist, unless she is green?
Why haven’t the League of Women Voters or the NAACP done more to challenge Secretary of State Kris Kobach on his unfair voter ID requirements?
Let those who are all hot and bothered over Matthew 6:5-6 read Matthew 5:15-16. Then try to figure it out.
Hey, Coach, we’ve been playing the same quarterback for three years, and we keep losing jobs and spending ourselves into a hole we’ll never get out of. Let’s try another quarterback before we’re all unemployed.
Willard Mitt Romney – another “Slick Willie”?
I can’t wait to hear all the Republicans give Romney grief for his New Hampshire primary victory speech, which he read from a teleprompter – you know, just like Obama does with his speeches. And both Bushes did. And Reagan, etc.
Jon Huntsman said that people in Iowa pick corn and people in New Hampshire pick presidents. After the New Hampshire primary results, I hope he still stands by his statement.
Watching these Republican presidential candidate debates is really entertaining. It’s like watching “Saturday Night Live.”
Oklahoma State might not have beaten Alabama had OSU had the chance to play in the college football championship game, but it certainly would have put up a better fight than LSU did.
