Wichita’s status as the Air Capital may soon be a distant memory. But, hey, we’ve got a city government that’s very ambitious about working toward hotels and randomly placed art. Maybe all of the laid-off workers will find positions polishing sculptures and cleaning unused presidential suites.
Now we know how Boeing got its name: Its word bounces like a rubber check. Boing, boing, boing.
You union folks finally put the nail in your casket. It comes to a time when we cannot afford $25 an hour. Now look for a job with us peons.
While I truly feel sorry for the impact Boeing’s decision will have on our neighbors and their families, I’m struck by the fact that our politicians are screaming “foul” over being lied to by Boeing. One group of liars being lied to by another group of liars. How ironic.
Boeing leaving Kansas would not surprise the late WSU professor Craig Meier. In my History of Wichita class, he said several times that Wichita is great at attracting and starting businesses but not great at keeping them. Wichita, we need to wake up.
Adios, Boeing. Goodbye and good riddance.
If Rep. Mike Pompeo thinks Boeing should live up to its promises, shouldn’t we expect him to do the same?
The Boeing job losses are partly a result of the Republican budget cuts. Republicans also see value in cutting teacher, police and firefighter jobs. If they continue to get their way, Kansas may lose enough jobs and citizens to lose a congressional district. I hope it is Pompeo’s seat.
If our government is running a pyramid scheme with Social Security taxes, it has messed that up, too, because the point is to take in more money than you give out. It’s more of a gambling scheme in that the government is betting you die before it has to give you back 100 times what you paid in. Socialized medicine is its way of evening out the odds.
When you figure in the state and federal incentives behind it, the Chevy Volt is costing taxpayers $250,000 per car. Government Motors should be giving the cars to taxpayers.
President Obama wants the companies to bring the jobs home. If the taxes and regulations weren’t so prohibitive, they might.
Remember the song “Mrs.Robinson”? “Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon. Going to the candidates’ debate. Laugh about it, shout about it, when you’ve got to choose, every way you look at this you lose.” How prophetic of Simon and Garfunkel.
Despite what conservatives want you to believe, President Reagan raised taxes and compromised with Democrats. Imagine that.
Owners of repeat-offending attack dogs are ignorant and self-centered. I hope they do jail time when their “family pet” kills or attacks the next innocent person.
If you read Opinion Line regularly, you soon realize traffic laws are not getting enforced. Traffic law enforcement must not be a high priority with either local or state authorities.
Not another week of Tim Tebow. Pittsburgh let us down.
