Go back to the table on Boeing
Boeing is leaving Wichita. How tragic. Wichita is going to lose billions of dollars. It seems to me that Wichita and the state did not work hard enough to keep Boeing here. Wichita should go back to the table and give this company what it wants. Just do it.

Limit digital time
I seldom fully agree with columnist Cal Thomas. However, I fully agreed with his comments in “The digital age has made U.S. less intelligent” (Jan. 4 Opinion). Parents need to wake up and limit their children’s use of digital games and online time. There must be a better balance between play and learning the basics.
Children not only must be taught to read, write and do arithmetic, they need to know where other countries are located on a world map. They should know U.S. history and the content of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They need to know the three branches of our government and their functions.
Play is good, but too much play reduces learning the basics, which will lead to the “dumbing down” of our country. Education has been and always will be the most important thing we can give to our children.

Still a church
“Center for homeless teens gets assistance” (Dec. 27 Local & State) said that the drop-in center was going to be in an “old church.” In fact, we are a church that operates every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday with a congregation, preaching and community outreach. It was a great article, except for that little part that made it seem as if there is not a church operating at all. Some of our members were disturbed about that.
I do thank The Eagle for letting the community know about the efforts we are making to help families in need, while helping youths with a safe place to go. It means a lot to see good news in the paper.

Guns for Christmas
I saw TV report on how popular guns were this Christmas. This disappointed me. It said that this season, sales went up 100 percent over last year.
It just seems strange to me. In the season of love and giving, this gift seems out of place.
I also am amazed that the city is allowing concealed guns on public property. The acceptance and quietness of this community also amaze me.
May no victim be hurt because of the new policy in Wichita and the 100 percent increase of sales of guns.

Are you tired of the filthy language befouling almost every adult-plot novel, movie or DVD, even those in public libraries? If you are, why not join me in putting up a fight to restore sanity?
If you love reading romances, crime novels or stories about war, espionage or police procedure, let’s let their publishers know that they don’t need “bilge” to render their copy either trendy or engaging.
Write or text them. Let their purveyors know that we demand a reprint, or at the least that expurgated editions be regularly available to those of us who prefer our books and movies unsullied.

Only one way
Regarding “Study other faiths” (Dec. 17 Letters to the Editor): I believe there is only one way to eternal life with God and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said of Himself in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Either Jesus Christ is a liar or He is telling the truth. Since our Lord Jesus Christ is not a liar, then all other perceived ways to God, religions of the world, are useless and degrading to their followers, because all those religions require works to get to heaven.

All fall short
I do not believe any Christian denomination within itself can fulfill a person long term (“Study other faiths,” Dec. 17 Letters to the Editor). All denominations, like all people, fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
One needs to study the Scriptures and sincerely put one’s faith and trust in the Lord. That and that alone can give one a long-term fulfillment. Then one should find a church that has ministers and members who sincerely try to follow and teach according to the will of God. Being in association with other sincere believers not only upholds your faith but can help you to reach out to others.
