Criminal charges filed in two Wichita homicides

Criminal charges were filed Thursday in Sedgwick County District Court in two recent Wichita homicides.

Christopher A. Cervantes, 21, was charged with second-degree murder in the Sunday morning stabbing death of Bradley J. Wellbrock.

Wichita police said Wellbrock, 30, was stabbed in the chest after he intervened in a dispute between a man and woman in the 2500 block of West Wildwood about 2:45 a.m.

District Judge Warren Wilbert set Cervantes’ bond at $250,000 and scheduled a Jan. 16 preliminary hearing.

Also charged Thursday was Steven M. Louis, who was arrested in the Dec. 30 shooting death of Kao Saechao, 19. Saechao, who was shot in the head outside the Bai Wei restaurant at 1845 S. Rock Road, died Sunday.

Police said the victim and suspect were in the parking lot of the restaurant when a dispute between gangs erupted in gunfire.

Bond for Louis, 21, who also faces charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm, was set at $1.25 million by Wilbert. His preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 19.
