Charlie Weis' Kansas football staff grew by two Tuesday.
The Jayhawks hired Rob Ianello as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. Ianello has been Arkon's head coach for the previous two seasons.
Kansas retained Buddy Wyatt as defensive line coach. Wyatt and running backs coach Reggie Mitchell are holdovers from Turner Gill's staff.
Before Arkon, Ianello had served on Weis' Notre Dame staff as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in all five seasons of Weis' tenure. One Ianello's assistants at Akron, Ron Powlus, had already been hired on the Jayhawks' staff as quarterbacks coach.
Ianello's Akron teams went 2-22.
In his final season at Notre Dame, the Irish offense ranked sixth in the nation in passing at 323.5 yards per game. He coached former All-America Golden Tate.
In 2006 and 2007, Notre Dame's recruiting classes were ranked eighth nationally by rivals.com, and the 2008 class was ranked second.
Ianello and Wyatt are part of a Kansas staff that includes Mitchell, Powlus and Tim Grunhard, the former Chiefs offensive lineman and Bishop Miege coach. Grunhard will coach the offensive line while recruiting Kansas City and Chicago.
Johnson at Shrine — KU linebacker Steven Johnson has been selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 21. Johnson led the Big 12 with 124 tackles this season.
