Opinion Line Extra (Jan. 3)

I have to take exception to Rep. Mike Pompeo’s reference to Boeing and Kansas being family (Dec. 21 Opinion). One of the early executive directives after the McDonnell merger took the term “Boeing family” out of the lexicon.

So Pompeo is upset with Boeing? Isn’t letting businesses do what they want, when they want, how they want what he pushes for? No regulations, and let the businesses use their consciences to guide them? Let’s get rid of the EPA next.

After the tax-cut extension, all we heard from the media was discussion of who won, the liberals or the GOP? This type of blathering by the liberal media is just one more example of why the two parties cannot get along. I really think when the Democrats forced Obamacare through, over the objections of the GOP and without any input, is when the animosity began.

Ask the people claiming unemployment or other welfare benefits to pass a drug test? No. Better to ask if they are registered voters and, if not, provide then with the means to become registered voters.

Why all of a sudden is President Obama wanting a budget? He has had three years to come up with one, and now the Republicans are eating dirt to make him look good.

Recently there have been so many suicide bombers that I’m sorry to inform potential suicide bombers that heaven has run out of virgins.

Just ask Alexander the Great, the British Empire or the former Soviet Union if attempting to conquer Afghanistan is a worthwhile endeavor. Let’s end this war in Afghanistan just as we have “ended” the war in Iraq. (Thousands of Department of Defense contractors are still there.)

I have determined that TSA stands for “thugs, sadists and antagonists.”

A writer pointed out that the important time-related event of Christmas season used to be Midnight mass. Now it’s the 4 a.m. opening time for retail stores.

I wonder if those people who spent $180 for tennis shoes are the same ones who ask charities to get Christmas toys for their kids.

If you wise and patriotic evangelicals had read any of the correspondences of the Founding Fathers, you would realize they were Deists, not Christians.

The feds say they want to ban all electronic from vehicles? No work phone, no radio, no personal phone, no computer? What are the police to do then? Oh, more radar.

Right now, as I type these words, I’m driving 75 mph in the passing lane of Kellogg, just past West Street, in evening rush-hour traffic. I just heard on the radio about the government not letting us use our electronic toys while we’re driving. Well, they’ll have to pry my dead fingers from… (Signal lost.)

Yes, dear friends, we are glad to take off our shoes when we come inside your home. But unless you tell us in advance, it is your responsibility to provide warm socks. One small box of clean socks inside the door and one box to deposit socks worn when we leave for you to wash later will do. Thank you.
