Property owners and renters: Beware of Gov. Sam Brownback’s agenda to eliminate the state income tax and underfund education. This will then make it necessary for school districts to raise property taxes, thus also creating higher rents. He should be called the Kansas “defunder.” Next election he should be called “defunct.”

Teachers haven’t had a raise in four years, and the administrators want them to buy new clothes other than jeans. How long has it been since administrators have had a raise? I wonder.

I long for the good old days when unemployment was less than 5 percent, the price of oil was less than $50 per barrel, the federal budget deficit was less than $150 billion, the GDP was growing at a 3.2 percent rate, and my 401(k) was twice what it is now. That was in January 2007. Then Democrats took over majorities in both the House and the Senate, and it all went downhill.

Boeing has slowly been leaving Wichita for years now, so it won’t be that big a deal if it closes down what little is left. Somebody will buy the facility and possibly even create new jobs. Spirit AeroSystems and the machine shops that do Boeing work will still profit from the tanker deal.

I bet the first of the month, as the welfare checks arrive, will be booming for the Kansas Star Casino. I wonder if you can use a Vision card to get a players club card.

Those who can’t come to grips with global warming probably don’t understand the gravity of the situation.

Paying off layaways is a nice gesture, but why not step over to the pharmacy and pay a medication bill for an elderly person? Seniors may have to choose between their medication and buying food. That’s compassion.

Van Halen is touring in 2012. Will they be playing at our downtown arena?

I have been to both Koch Arena and Intrust Bank Arena, and have heard the comments on how cramped the seats are at both. I am 6 feet 7 inches tall, and I can tell you Koch Arena is the worst. At Intrust, I can keep my legs behind the seat below. Don’t let anyone tell you how bad Intrust seats are.

Time to move on to the next commercialized holiday, the dreaded Valentine’s Day.

I don’t tweet. I leave that for the birds.
