A musical group made up of members of the U.S. Air Force will perform a free concert Wednesday at Century II’s Convention Hall.
Tops in Blue consists of 35 to 40 active-duty Air Force men and women. The group includes vocalists, dancers, musicians and stage techs, said Senior Airman Abigail Klein, a spokeswoman for McConnell Air Force Base, which is the host base for the show.
Tops in Blue plays around the world, performing about 230 shows in 235 days at cities in the U.S. and at military bases abroad. The group will arrive in Wichita after a two-week tour in southwest Asia.
After Wichita, it will have shows this month in Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The group was formed in 1953. It is based out of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
This year, Tops in Blue includes Tech. Sgt. Douglas Boren of the 384th Air Refueling Squadron, which is stationed at McConnell. He and the group will perform a show called “Rhythm Nation,” which will feature popular rhythm-and-blues songs from the early 1900s through today.
