Wichita Wings release No. 2 scorer

Carlos Farias, the Wings' second-leading scorer and the first player signed in the indoor soccer franchise's inaugural season, was released by the team Thursday.

Farias, 35, was seen arguing with coach LeBaron Hollimon during Wednesday's 10-7 loss at Missouri, but Hollimon would not give a reason for the dismissal.

"We just had to look at things and say, OK, what's best for the team?" Hollimon said Thursday. "I can't get into details of it, but it's just some things that have happened or gone on, both good and bad. We certainly don't want to portray him as a villain, it's just a decision that we made that we felt was in the best interest of the collective good of the team."

The Chilean-born Farias had five goals and 13 assists with the Wings, including an assist in Wednesday's loss.

Farias had previously played with 15 North American soccer teams. He is known as a fiery player who often argues with coaches.

"I fight with them all the time," Farias said in November. "During the game, I fight with all the coaches. They scream at me, I scream back at them. But outside the field, it's a different story."

Farias could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The Wings (3-7) play host to Missouri (8-5) at 7:35 Friday night in Park City's Hartman Arena.
