Vaden supervises hospice caregivers in northeast Wichita, putting to work knowledge he has gained in his more than 15 years in health care.
"I just oversee what they do, and if any complaints or concerns come in, I take care of that," he said.
Vaden, 47, grew up in Arkansas City and moved here in 1994. After getting his emergency medical technician certification, he wasn’t sure whether to become a nurse or paramedic.
A friend "asked me if I wanted stability or excitement," Vaden said. "At the time, I was a single parent and needed stability. He told me to go into nursing and work the emergency room, so that’s what I did" at two local hospitals.
A decade later, he started working in hospice care at the suggestion of friends in that field.
"I thought it’d be a change, so I gave it a try," he said.
Outside work, Vaden said, "I’m rebuilding a Mustang and have kids’ sports to go to, and that’s about it."
