Police have classified the death of a homeless man found near the Keeper of the Plains statue Friday morning as a homicide, and they have no suspects yet.

Marshall K. Hauschulz, 41, lived under a bridge in downtown Wichita, but not the one closest to where his body was found shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday, Wichita police Lt. Randy Reynolds said. Hauschulz was found on a concrete slab next to the Arkansas River near Central and Nims.

An autopsy indicates Hauschulz died late Thursday night or early Friday morning from blunt force trauma to the head, Reynolds said.

Investigators think he was killed on the concrete slab where he was found, Reynolds said. Investigators have been interviewing other homeless people staying near where Hauschulz was found, he said, and they’ve been cooperative and helpful. But police have not been able to identify suspects yet.

Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects in the case.

Anyone having information about this or any felony crime should call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Residents can also submit a tip online at http://www.wsccs.com or from a mobile phone by texting TIP217 then the message to CRIMES (274637). Each of these methods allows the tipster to remain anonymous.
